Data Methodology

Document Source

The document appearance counts (docCount) are sourced from SearchEpsteinFiles.com, a searchable database of the publicly released Jeffrey Epstein documents. This includes court filings, flight logs, and other legal documents that have been made public through various court proceedings.

How Names Are Counted

The docCount metric represents the number of documents in which a person's name appears at least once. This is a document frequency count, not a total mention count. For example, if someone's name appears 50 times across 3 documents, their docCount would be 3.

Data Compilation Process

  1. Names were cross-referenced with public celebrity databases and Wikipedia
  2. Document counts were retrieved from SearchEpsteinFiles.com
  3. Images were sourced from Wikimedia Commons under free licenses
  4. Biographical descriptions were derived from Wikipedia introductions

Limitations & Disclaimers

  • Name matching is imperfect: Common names may match unrelated individuals. For example, “John Smith” appearing in documents may not refer to a specific public figure.
  • Context is not considered: A name appearing in a document does not indicate the nature of the mention. People may be mentioned as witnesses, attorneys, acquaintances, or in completely unrelated contexts.
  • Appearance does NOT imply wrongdoing: Being mentioned in these documents does not indicate guilt, association with crimes, or any involvement in illegal activity.
  • Data may be incomplete: Not all documents have been released or digitized, and OCR errors may affect name recognition.

Technology & Code

This web application is built with modern web technologies including Next.js 14, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. The game runs entirely client-side with no database or server-side processing required.

License Compliance

  • All images respect their individual licenses as specified on Wikimedia Commons
  • No modifications have been made to the biographical descriptions beyond excerpting for length
  • This project itself is a derivative work and any further distribution should maintain these attribution requirements
